We’re Just Resident Aliens

As the picture with the kitty at the bottom-right of this page would suggest, I spend a lot of time thinking about existence, time and space, what religions and scientists and philosophers have been trying to explain for centuries…

Fun, but heavy, material!

I always think about a song we’d sing in church – ‘This World Is Not My Home‘ – that captured my imagination at a very young age.

The song reflects a passage from the Bible. In Chapter 13 of Hebrews, it says:

For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come.

There are myriad ideas swirling around the concept expressed in those few words. Belief systems talk about all things Afterlife. There are heavens and hells, Promised Lands, virgins, eternal peaces, Nirvanas, reincarnations, and also nothingness if you ask some people.

In physics, the law of conservation of energy states that the total energy of an isolated system remains constant—it is said to be conserved over time. Energy can neither be created nor destroyed; rather, it transforms from one form to another.

My parents came together to create the bundle of cells that turned into me. The same goes for everyone else.

Whatever you want to call What Makes Us Alive filled me. My body formed & has carried me through this life, collecting experiences, forming my reality… eventually, my body will expire, and my “energy” will move on to the next phase. That’s such a cool thought.

That thought intrigues me, excites me, and inspires me… it inspired me to produce this song (lyrics here):

That song was so fun to conceptualize AND make. If you listen carefully, during some lines, you can tell I’m about to giggle. I picture myself during recording, trying not to let a creeping-on, big-ass grin interfere with delivering the lines!

It’s just one more step in having fun with the heavy stuff my mind is always tossing around. I told y’all I’m having a Happiness Revolution!

Enjoy yourself… I know I am!
