WTF DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH ME?

in ‘Sub-Standard comes Standard‘, I wrote this question:

WTF DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH ME?

I encourage you to ask yourself this question more often.

We are inundated with tragic news stories being nagged at us from our tv sets. People post too-personal stuff on Facebook. There are sob stories, sad stories, suffering… and it’s goin on at all times.

You have to ask yourself how much you’re going to let it eat away at you.

Because you don’t realize the effects, but they’re there – we, as a society, are stressed for no reason, worried, scared, concerned with thins that don’t affect us.

It’s everything from gay marriage to homeless animals.

Two dudes want to get married. You’ve been told to care, to oppose it, “gay marriage is ruining marriage.” How? Seriously, your trashy cousin who married (and shortly divorced) the coke head didn’t affect your hetero marriage. The skyrocketing divorce rates of the early 2000s didn’t affect it. How does marriage equality affect your marriage?

Sarah MacLachlan starts singing… in the arrrmmmsss of the anngel…Your eyes start welling up. That commercial is supposed to do that.

We are empathetic creatures.

But, if you’re going to act, rather than being acted upon (which IS what happens at church, on the news, with commercials, etc.), you have to separate what matters from what doesn’t.

What are you going to concern yourself with?

What are you going to give your attention to?

What are you going to let affect you?
